Lesson 5: Modifying Page Layout
You may find that the default page layout settings in Word are not sufficient for the document you want to create, in which case you will want to modify those settings. For example, if you are printing on a different paper size, you’ll want to change the document page size to match the paper. In addition, you may want to change page formatting depending on the type of document you are creating.
In this lesson, you will learn how to change the page orientation, paper size, and page margins.
Page layout and formatting
Word offers a variety of page layout and formatting options that affect how content appears on the page. You can customize the page orientation, paper size, and page margins depending on how you want your document to appear.

To change page orientation:
Landscape format means the page is oriented horizontally, while portrait format means it is oriented vertically.

The Page Setup dialog box
Previously, we showed you how to open the Page Setup dialog box from the Margins drop-down menu. As you become more familiar with Word, you may find that you want to use the Page Setup dialog box more often to fine tune the page margins and adjust other settings. To get there more quickly, you can use a shortcut that’s conveniently located on the Page Layout tab.
To open the Page Setup dialog box:
Open an existing Word document. If you want, you can use this example.
Change the page orientation.
Change the paper size.
Change the margins to narrow.
Adjust the margins using custom margins.
A page break in Microsoft Word 2010 is an indicator to the program that you want to start a new page. There are actually two kinds of page breaks, however. One kind is the page break that you insert manually, in a place before the physical end of the page. The other kind of page break is the one that Word includes automatically when you have reached the end of a page and need to move to the next one to continue adding information. You can learn how to remove a page break in Word 2010 that you have added manually, but you cannot remove an automatic page break that Word has inserted. This ability comes in handy when you have added a page break, but come to discover later that you need to add additional information to the page, or that the page break is no longer needed.
Deleting a Manually Inserted Page Break in Word 2010
The problem that most people have when they are attempting to remove a Word 2010 page break is simply locating where the page break has been inserted. This is difficult to do in the normal Word 2010 view, so you need to enable an option that will provide you with some more detail about your document’s formatting.
Step 1: Open the document that contains the page break you want to delete.
Step 2: Navigate to the page in the document that contains the page break. This is going to be the partially full page, not the page that starts after the page break.
Step 6: Press the Backspace or Delete key on your keyboard. The information that had previously been pushed to the next page should now be back on the current page.

A style is a predefined combination of font style, color, and size that can be applied to any text in your document. Styles can help your documents achieve a more professional look and feel. You can also use styles to quickly change several things in your document at the same time.

To apply a style:
Select the text you want to format, or place your cursor at the beginning of the line.
Select the desired style from the drop-down menu.
The text will appear in the selected style.
To apply a style set:
Style sets include a combination of title, heading, and paragraph styles. Style sets allow you to format all elements in your document at once instead of modifying each element separately.
Choose the desired style set from the drop-down menu.
The selected style set will be applied to your entire document.
To modify a style:
The style will be modified.
When you modify a style, you’re changing every instance of that style in the document. In the example below, we’ve modified the Normal style to use a larger font size. Because both paragraphs use the Normal style, they’ve been updated automatically to use the new size.
To create a new style:
The Styles task pane will appear. Select the New Style button at the bottom of the task pane.
The new style will be applied to the currently selected text. It will also appear in the Styles group.

On page 1, select the first line of text Shelbyfield Animal Rescue and change the style to Title.
Select the second line that says August Volunteer Update and change the style to Heading 1.
Select the third line that says A Message From Your Director and change the style to Heading 2.
In the Design tab, change the style set to Casual.
Modify the Normal style so the font is Cambria and the font size is 14 pt.
When you’re finished, the first page of your document should look like this:
Optional: Modify the Heading 3 style any way you want. You can change the font, font size, color, and more. This heading appears throughout the document, so try to choose formatting that complements the body text.
How to add, modify, or delete a table in Microsoft Word
You can insert a table in a Microsoft Word document to display data in a tabular format. A table is a great way to represent multiple fields of associated data. For example, a list of prices is easier to read when displayed in a table.

In Word, place the mouse cursor where you want to add the table.
Inserting or deleting a row or column
In a Microsoft Word table, you can add or remove a row or column at any time.
Insert a row
Move the mouse cursor inside the left edge of a cell in the row where you want to insert a new row. The cursor changes to a small black arrow pointing to the top-right.
Insert a column
Move the mouse cursor inside the left edge of a cell in the column where you want to insert a new column. The cursor changes to a small black arrow pointing to the top-right.
Delete a row
Move the mouse cursor inside the left edge of a cell in the row you want to delete. The cursor changes to a small black arrow pointing to the top-right.
Delete a column
Move the mouse cursor inside the top edge of the top-most cell in the column you want to delete. The cursor changes to a small black arrow pointing downward.

If the table spans more than one page, you may want to have the header row displayed on each additional page the table spans across. You can make the header row visible on each page by following the steps below.
