That’s my favorite… I wonder why only use this champion samotimes in the world championship… is that because is not good in clash, and blitz is more greater chance in pulling… but the only thing that makes me darius is the best is the combo of diz champ.. Tips: gank is the best medicine top or bot. Always in grass.. from the tip… Just wait a perfect time to use your skill… don’t use 3RD! Start with W, Q and then E… if its not enough… flash, R will do it.That’s all and no one can beat me from that combo. Its just an opinion

Best champion in laugh out loud in my opinion. He is ridiculously difficult to counter, his damage is insane (especially his passive Haemorrhage, which is like a second Ignite) with Decimate and Crippling Strike. If the enemy runs, he pulls them back with Apprehend and his ultimate, Noxian Guillotine, just dunks the enemy to oblivion, not to mention he can redo it in 20 secs after the kill. Simply insane.

Darius is, by far, the most OP champion. Today it’s easy to counter him, but he is one of the easiest champion, great ratios, natural damage and tankyness, an amazing ultimate.

Darius is a lane bully and he is certainly one of the most op champ out there. He has his stacking passive that destroys early game and late game is not even a question with his damage and his tankiness. He is certainly an easy champ to play but he is fun and there is nothing better than a fed darius haha.

Lee Sin is hard to get used to but once you practice and get good with him, he will prove to be the best champion of them all. Not to mention he has 7 totally badass abilities.

Q: He sends a sonic wave that hits and reveals any champion. Once that is placed, he can press Q again to instantly dash to that enemy, making it easier to finish off if he is running away. Also it can travel through walls, which is awesome

W: He shields himself and/or another ally by dashing instantly to that ally. He gains a small shield that does only a portion of his health, however it is useful for the enemy to waste ignite and escape a turret without any health loss and can help escape by dashing to an ally, or even a ward. He can press W again to gain additional lifesteal, which is pretty good.

E: When Lee Sin casts E, his hits the ground and deals magic damage to enemies around him. It’s a very small range but it’s still pretty good. Also, once that’s done, he can cast E again to … more

I just bought him a few days ago and I am a noob in Silver I. I can’t jungle, but with Lee Sin it’s very easy. And his ganks are awesome! His E slows them, Q and W close gaps and his ultimate kicks the enemy to fellow champions or turret. It also helps save champs as you can ult and kick away a bruiser. His shield also saves you or other champs from dying to ignite, very OP!

Lee Sin is one of the characters that is very hard to master but when someone sees you play him like a god or a trickster, they will worship you just for knowing how hard it is to use a Lee Sin. He has the tools you need to jungle and to gank that is why when used properly, those turrets mean no thing just by ward jumping and insec kicking.

He is blind be nice to him

Kassadin has some great tools for chasing and cleaning up fights. Flash with short cool down that can aoe damage, combined with another flash for great mobility. Force Pulse is useful in team fights and his nether blade gives mana regen. Though he is somewhat squishy, his ult helps him get out of near impossible situations.

Kassadin is the best! he is nice to build and strongest ap in the late game! He is the only champion who can run away and catch easily with his ultimate and his void wave! I think that he is the best mid laner

When someone tries to hug him they die… If they run from his hugs they still die

With the right gear, This crowd control champion can be devastating especially if centered around tanking.

His ult, his E’s cooldown. One of the best tanks I would say. And, the most important part, he’s cute!Hey, he has no friends, be nice

My first pentakill was with chúng tôi the ADs were taunted to hit me with low health not realizing their damage is reduced and combined with Thornmail..it’s so fun..

Q: With this, he can catch up to enemies when they are running away and kill like 10 minions in 2 secondsW: Whenever you are running low on health, Meditate can help you recover and bring you good condition to fight againE: This is helpful in fighting against enemies with high health and destroys turrets fasterR: Master Yi gains bonus movement speed, attack speed and attack damage. He is also immune to slowing movements (which can be good for escapes)

If played correctly, he can gank beautifully (1v1//2v1//even 3v1). Combine with Smite and Flash, Yi can solo the Dragon and pick up a Quadra kill (if you’re good enough then penta). He’s also very cheap IP which makes him a great starter. Yi also has many different builds like semi-tanky, high AD, high AS, and can distract a group of enemies or lead them into a trap for a big play. One of my favorite plays is stealing the drag… E + Q + Smite = Free Drag (slight possibility of death depending on how many enemies). Best play I’ve made: Stole the drag, Picked up the penta for the ace, and ended the game with some winions… all while being the last alive on my team.

I love his skill. To begin with the fact that meditation fneds off attacks if your in danger and can help heal. It’s a good way to loop around being killed. Then, Alpha Strike is a good way to steal kills and his R key can wreck all the other champs to get a fast kill. Basically, what he does best is speed killing. Also, at the beginning, his attack speed is originally faster than the average, along with his attack.

I think that master yi is best done at the earliest campion. El farm has the highest damage and is very easy to play with him, all the other characters against master yi’s bull! Master yi is the best champion to play if you know you can beat any counter, so I think master yi is the best champion ami!

A very good support in my opinion, is in my top 5 supports. Though her attack is low, she shields and helps her teammates, which is what a support is for.

She is the only champion that can shield turret

Akk not to sure if I would play her but I believe she will be pretty strong

Look. The League council literally said he was too unbeatable so they made rules for him to fight under SO THE OTHER LEGENDS WOULD HAVE A CHANCE TO WIN. Jax was like “fine” and decided also, he could only fight with a brass lamppost. With the rules placed on him, he still continued to be unbeatable so the council just took them off.

You are all noobs.. So why do you think you know what the best champ is? You literally do not know how to play the game or use proper grammar. Many of you explanations just list the champs moves. Sona is the most op champ because she can heal all day and stun an entire team in a team fight.. Wow Sona is so good and I love to play her. In reality, there are many good champs some of which excel in different aspects of the game. So if you look at the game from team fight perspective ONLY then you will have to look at champs that provide wombo combos.

Sona is a healer/support that falls into the wombo combo aspect. Nobody voted for her even though she play a more important role than many of the other votes cast. However, remember that there is more strategy than just team fighting. If you can understand all the strats and champion strengths you will improve your gameplay.

I main with her, if you build her right she can take some decent chunks of health out of the enemy as a support! Heals, Stuns, Slows, Buffs, has everything a team could ask for!

Sona is easy to play, and is good at support anywhere. Her heal can save many a teammate about to die, and her movement speed is helpful for running or fighting.

Easy to use? Yes. Rocks at support? Yes. Boobs? Yes.

Zeds poke with his shadow is great, when I see a master of zed (my diamond friend) play zed I realize his full poke potential, the usefulness of his ult, the clutch shadow escapes, and his adc pick off. I am trying to become as good as him, once you are experienced with zed you can pick off any champion, even in the middle of a massive team fight. One great tip I have for zed is to remember that you can tap your r again after use to teleport back to your starting ult point. When ganking I recommend hiding in a bush, ulting, dropping your ignite, e, q, blade; then hitting r again if you know the enemy will die from your pop. Once you teleport back to the bush you will be hard to catch and counter banked, or chased down, you will have distance between you and your enemy, be off the enemies map, and will still have your w to “teleport” to another bush or to the safety of your turret

It’s all about the shadows; remembering where you put them and remembering to use them at the right time when that time comes. If you use the shadows correctly, you should not only be able to use them to do extra damage if your enemy champions get too close to them, but you can also switch spots with them to get out of a sticky situation, or catch up with a low health champ and take them out.

Zed is the best he can escape all the time with his r and w, shadow exchange OP. I main him and use him every time to get into enemy side and get that ADC killed and escape with my ult. He just need some special items to show his benefits, like duskblade, yomumu and the ruined kings. Although the hardest skill of him is shadow exchange, but once you know how to use his skills, you can get a PENTA easily. and your q takes them half blood.

Zed is incredible. Having problems with minions just put a shadow near them and do any ability. The best thing is Zed can go through walls and obstacles. Guess what, Zed can even move out of the way when someone uses their ult. All he does is trade places with a shadow.

Garen is an amazing champion if you can use him properly. His abilities are awesome and very powerful. If he is made tanky and if a it of attack damage is bought he becomes really good be it in 1v1s or team fights. With support champions like ashe, who can stun enemies, he can take down almost everyone.Usually if you hide in a bush and the opponent doesn’t know you can easily kill him (especially squishy targets) with his ability combo. First strike the enemy hard and silence him with Q and then start spinning which would do massive damage. Once the enemy has around 500 health he n be executed using his R attack

Bad ass rugged skin. Strong ad scaling. Can survived burst. Can kill carries in a matter of seconds. Very easy to use, just wait for yor team mate initiation most probably, an aoe stun then, wreak havoc.

Garen is so much fun to play with! I wouldn’t call his abilities cheap but they could be really deadly! He is also very easy to use! Garen definitely is one of my favourites!

Since I’ve started playing Garen, I’ve learned to play top and how to Jungle. It’s a fun game, since I don’t use a glass cannon (like Brand)…

Q: She can hit 4 enemies with it and gets a mark that deals more damage. Also great with Luden’s Echo. Op free poke

W: She can deal tons of damage with whirling her blades around her. She just spams this all the time to deal damage

E: The most op ability in her kit. She can “flash” to a target ally or enemy minion or champion. Basically a gap closer and flash all in one. Starts her op combo which lets her get her pentas

R: Channels and gets a bunch of blades running around. Luden’s Echo procs so much with this ability because it gets +5 per spell cast and each blade counts as one so…

All in all she is op

Um I think Katarina should be in the top ten because she is Garens rival and it kind of means that she could beat Garen by herself with the right items and I got 3 pentakills with her and one of them was by myself the other one was with like two other people and one died and I killed them but one person then the other person hit him then I threw my dagger and killed him and won laugh out loud the last one I got quadra kill then ignited the last person standing and died but my team mates got him low and my ignite did the rest. Sorry for bragging a lil but I’m not lying it was that epic any way I got so many Quadra kills and I forgot how many I got and again srry for bragging my point is she should be in the top ten laugh out loud

In my opinion Kat is super broken if she gets an early game kill; her ult does massively area damage and is ridiculous in team fights (I think we’ve all seen a Kat pent… ‘_’) Kat is one of the best in and out champions in the game the ability to q, e (teleport in), w, then maybe ult and walk away is broken, she can do massive damage then just walk away like nothing ever happened.

My first champion was katarina and she is my main champ and I always get triple and Quadra kills with her and sometimes penta, but you need time to practice on her but when you master her she’s really perfect and you won’t be dead so easy and get many kills with her if you master her.

Almost no one can bring so much utility to a team fight other than Jarvan. His Q shreds armor. His W is an AoE slow. His E gives an attack speed aura buff. He has an AoE knock-up. His infamous ultimate can easily lock down the enemy team.

He is very item-independent. He can build pretty much anything given the situation he might be. Are you ahead? Build a bruiser build and carry the game. Are you behind? No problem. Build tanky and your utility will win team fights. One of his only weakness is he don’t have natural sustain.

Even though he is most well known for top and jungle, he can also go as any role and do really well (with an exception of ADC). As mid, he can E-Q a squishy mid and melt their face. As support, he can peel and tank for their ADC really well; he’s basically a Leona. As a jungler, he has decent clear time, but his ganks are really great. As top, his passive and his q serve as great pokes.

Also, Demacia.

Jarvan IV is one of the best champions because he can play defensive and offensive at the same time and also can cause devastating damage in team fights. Furtheremore, can buff the whole team with attack speed boost. At last he can trap the whole enemy team in a death hole (R).

This guy is amazing, his passive, his ultimate, everything. At the first time, you find he’s hard to play, but when you get used to, J4 probably the best choice.

If you build Jarvan the right way he is a tank that cannot be escaped with

Teemo is great with the ability to be fast.

This champion’s passive is Camouflage. A great way to hide yourself from the enemy and to surprise the enemy.

A combination of blinding darts and poison darts can make a champion in the state of being in low health.

The ultimate ability is great for beating up your enemy. The enemy will hardly know about the mushrooms around them.

This thing is really OP. You can place the mushroom traps on top of each other. And the enemy would be like Hey! Looks like someone is almost dead. Better kill them. And then they step on 10 mushroom traps that look like 1 trap. And they would go BOOM! Great class overall. And that trap is really OP

This sack of poison shoots bullets out of it’s mouth! I only saw that like twice when I took that strange drink and smoked ganza at 6 AM at the beach of Matosinhos in Portugal… Trippy stuff mate…

You must choose Yasuo! Dashes through front lines, kills enemy, dashes back, AND ALL WITH A IMPENETRABLE SHIELD! Brilliant in places with a lot of people/minions to dash through. Ezreal stands no chance against him because Ezreal’s Q is on-hit and would most likely hit the minions next to Yasuo. ALSO, Yasuo is one of the easiest champions to be fed. Oh, and if you ARE against a ranged champion without any minions or champions around, YOUR W BLOCKS ALL RANGED DAMAGE (it’s a wall of wind). No limit on it, too OP!

If Yasuo is not the best champ, I don’t see anyone better.

First of all, he is broken. I love Yasuo, be he’s broken. He has the lowest cooldowns in the game. His Q hits incredibly hard, his W stops all hopes for ranged champs, his E can be used constantly and can gank easy, and his Ultimate can wipe out an entire team in one use. If that wasn’t enough, his Ultimate has a cooldown of 30 SECONDS. THAT’S INSANE. He is awesome and I love him, but he needs to be balanced.

Two crit items = God mode. You can pretty much tank him up after two crit items (IE, Shiv, PD, whatever gets you going), because it is almost 100% crit. He’s good in lane (if you can use him properly), has a good mid game (if you time your entries), and is easily the most OP champ late game (100% crit, 50% bonus armor penetration, outduels almost anyone with everyone in lock item mode). Of course, you’d have to survive the lane first, which is difficult for Yasuo.

Man I love how he slams the ground and champions die. Also a beast who can take quite a bit of punishment. Use R when you want many kills and it’s a chúng tôi takes even less damage then!

Actually this champ is not really good at killing, he is only one of the best champ when it comes to pushing towers and diving them. He can only become strong when most of the enemy champ have no escape mechanism and I found out that his life steal is not that powerful because a single stun or knock back can kill him in a seconds because it stops you from healing and his life steal wont do much to burst champs. still he is good to play but I wish he could have better stats because his hp and armor at level one is too low compared to other ad fighters…

Once you level enough, you can easily take on the majority of the opposing team with your ultimate, Massacre, and your other abilities. You’ll need a bloodthirster and a couple Warmog’s Armor sets. Make sure you have Blood Well not on cool down! His Q is a huge gap closer and initiator and is good for escaping an enemy base when you follow them in. You can else fly over terrain to avoid enemies. His W makes him able to deal tons of damage or last longer in a fight and exhaust the other. The E is good to damage and slow your opponents and is one of the most important opponents. The R is basically what you do right after you Q a champion. If you have decent health, the enemy champion is most likely going to die.

That non-stop twin fang when poisoned is absurd plus a mastered Cassiopeia can stun the whole enemy team by her amazing ultimate! That ulti is game changing. A great kiter and a great tank shredder mage than the other AP mages because her DPS is awesome. This snake lady is amazing, a late-game monster beast with that damage!

Awesome ult plus awesome w, e combo can burst down most of the champions. Plus she is the most sustain mage in the whole game

Constant damage withers away toughest tanks

Long Range!Fast Cooldown!KS for everyone!Probably the best champion for noobs and beginners!

League Of Legends: The 15 Strongest Champions According To The Lore

There are dozens of MOBA games to choose from, but there are several games that stand above the rest in terms of popularity and gameplay, like . But even they pale in comparison to League of Legends, which has been around for over a decade. League has remained popular because it allows players to select from a wide range of characters, all of whom have unique abilities and backstories.

RELATED: League Of Legends: 10 Common Mistakes Beginners Make (& How To Avoid Them)

When Riot created the game, they also created the world of Runeterra, which has lore spanning thousands of years, and every single champion has left their mark within it. Every champion is strong, otherwise they would not be on Summoner’s Rift, but from a lore perspective there are a few who are more powerful than any human could ever imagine.

Updated on April 16, 2021, by Juliet Childers: The overall meta of which champions are strongest is constantly changing in the popular MOBA. But, as all games have, there is a lore to League of Legends that stands behind the KDA ratios. For instance, did you know that Volibear was a deity of the Freljord? Moreover, did you know that Lissandra trapped a bunch of Void monsters in ice and they’re threatening to come out and take over the world? There are certain League of Legends champions who are just more powerful than others according to the lore.

15 Galio: The Colossus

The world of Runeterra is filled with powerful mages, but Galio is the only champion who counters every single one of them. Galio is basically a colossus who measures over 100 feet tall, and his body is made entirely out of petricite — an anti-magic stone that is resistant to all forms of magic.

The major issue with Galio however is the fact that he spends most of his time as a statue, because he only comes to life when there is an enemy mage fighting against the forces of Demacia.

14 Xerath: The Magus Ascendant

The ancient empire of Shurima was home to several champions, including Azir and Xerath, both of whom possess untold power. Xerath started out as a mere mortal who wanted to acquire as much magical power as possible in order to learn the secrets of the universe.

RELATED: 10 Amazing PC Video Games With Low Requirements

After completing the necessary ritual, Xerath became an ascendant being made up entirely of arcane energy, a transformation which bestowed upon him infinite power and immortality. The only way to stop Xerath is to seal him away, but even that will not work forever because he will eventually break through it with his magic.

13 Soraka: The Starchild

Soraka is an easy champion for beginners to use, but she also happens to be one of best supports in the game. In League of Legends lore, the Celestials are the most powerful race, and Soraka is one of them.

She may use her powers for healing, but that is just a simple manifestation of her power. She originally descended from the Celestial Realm in order to repair the damage done to Runeterra by the mortals, but after discovering that they were also capable of great kindness, she decided to help them unlock their untold potential.

12 Mordekaiser: The Iron Revenant

Mordekaiser is a spirit who is anchored to a physical object, which in this case is his massive suit of armor. When Mordekaiser first died, he managed to defy the Death Realm and mold it in his image, which is why he can summon and control an army of dead soldiers as a Necromancer.

It is believed that Morde is the strongest specter in Runeterra and the only way to stop him is by separating him from his armor. This will send him back to the afterlife, but that will be a temporary fix because he will eventually bring himself back to the world of the living.

11 Ryze: The Rune Mage

Ryze may technically be human, but he has lived for hundreds of years and is most likely the strongest mortal mage in all of Runeterra. The purple mage has spent much of his life searching for the World Runes-stones of untold power, which means that he is basically League’s skinnier and non-evil version of Thanos.

RELATED: League Of Legends: The 10 Most Beginner Friendly Champions, Ranked

While gathering the Runes, Ryze has had to fight extremely powerful mages, all of whom he’s beaten, and has managed to resist the corrupting nature of those same Runes. He also has the ability to teleport, which is considered to be an extremely rare and powerful form of magic.

10 Aatrox: The Darkin Blade

If played properly, Aatrox is one of the strongest Top laners in the game, and if the lore can be believed, he will be the end of all of Runeterra. Aatrox is a Darkin, a corrupted Ascendant (a human who was altered by celestial magic) who was sealed within his weapon and is now forced to take over the bodies of others in order to move.

Even before his corruption, Aatrox was the strongest of the Ascendant, and he is now on a mission to end all life on Runeterra in order to hopefully bring an end to his own cursed existence.

9 Zoe: The Aspect Of Twilight

This annoying little mage may look like a little girl, but she is over 1,000 years old. When she was a child, the Aspect of Twilight bestowed its power on her, and in doing so greatly reduced her aging, to the point that she’s immortal.

Thanks to these powers, Zoe is capable of moving through dimensions, ignoring the laws of gravity, and manipulating spacetime itself. She is so strong that she can call someone like Aurelion Sol a “space doggie” and not be afraid of angering him.

8 Kindred: The Eternal Hunters

Wherever there is life, there is also death, and in Runeterra, Kindred represents the twin essences of death. Lamb grants a quick and painless release, while Wolf chases after those who try to outrun their ends, and these ends are usually violent in nature.

Even the Celestials will eventually run out of time, and when that happens Kindred will be there to greet them, and if they try to fight back, it will be to no avail. Some champions may be able to cheat or circumvent death, but no one is capable of killing death.

7 Bard: The Wandering Caretaker

Zoe may be strong because she was blessed by the Aspect of Twilight, but she is not as powerful as the Aspect himself. Bard may not look intimidating, but he is one the strongest characters in all of League, as he only appears on Runeterra whenever balance needs to be restored.

RELATED: League Of Legends Wild Rift: 10 Major Differences With The PC MOBA

Bard can travel through dimensions and manipulate time and space just like Zoe, but to a much higher degree, According to his lore, Bard influences events at a cosmic level, which essentially makes him the equivalent of a God.

6 Aurelion Sol: The Star Forger

As far as the lore is concerned, Aurelion Sol is by far the strongest and oldest known character in the League of Legends universe. It is said that Sol came to life immediately after League’s version of The Big Bang, and has been shaping the universe ever since.

5 Nasus: The Curator Of The Sands

Nasus and Renekton are both based on Egyptian Gods and are, in fact, demigods. He is regarded as an “Ascended” so he may not be as powerful as a literal god, but he’s pretty darn close. He obviously resembles Anubis, the dog-headed god in Egyptian mythology.

But in League of Legends, Nasus was a famous scholar and strategist in Shurima. With the empire now arisen, it is his goal not to let it fall ever again.

4 Renekton: The Butcher Of The Sands

Also regarded as “Ascended”, Renekton is a ferocious Top Lane champion with explosive and dangerous power. He has great lane sustain, fight engage, and split-push capabilities. Though he can fall off hard late game, he still sees quite a lot of pro-play.

RELATED: League Of Legends: The Hardest Characters To Play, Ranked

In lore, he was once an esteemed warrior in Shurima; now, all he wants to do is find and kill Nasus, having succumbed to insanity. He also has one of the coolest skins in the game: Pool Party Renekton and he’s pretty easy to learn, too.

3 Lissandra: The Ice Witch

She wars with Ashe and Sejuani over control of the Freljord and shares the same lust for power that Syndra has. The Ice Witch is one of the only females whose power comes close to any of the other characters (mostly male) on this list.

Her lore is actually quite compelling in that she invited the Void into the world and lost her sisters for it. She imprisoned the Void creatures in ice, but they are slowly breaking free. Sounds like new champion opportunities for Riot!

2 Azir: The Emperor Of The Sands

“The Emperor of the Sands” used to be a mortal. Then his hubris somehow got him reborn as an Ascended. Like Caesar, he was betrayed then murdered, but he now wants to see Shurima restored to glory.

He studied under Nasus, was besties with Xerath for a bit, and is technically an ancestor of Sivir. Fun fact: it was Xerath who betrayed him and killed Azir’s family. Anyone looking to play him should know that he’s one of the most difficult champs to master.

1 Ornn: The Fire Below The Mountain

Ornn is another Freljordian, but he is a spirit of craftsmanship and forging like Haephestus in Greek mythology. He’s kind of like the ornery grandfather of the Freljord as he’d always rather be back in his volcano-smithy rather than out and about in the world.

Volibear, Ornn’s brother, frequently falls prey to his admonishments as he enjoys meddling in the affairs of mortals. An epic battle of theirs caused the destruction of the Heartblood.

The Best League Of Legends Champions For Beginners

League of Legends’ champions are a confusing bunch, especially if you’re a new player. The Summoner’s Rift map can be a daunting place for those starting out on their MOBA journeys, especially when you find yourself dying over and over. With over 130 champions in the game, the freedom of choice can feel overwhelming. It’s going to take time to get to grips with how every champion plays, how they work together, and how to play against them. It’s not quite as welcoming as Riot’s autobattler spin off, where there are less champions divided into Teamfight Tactics Classes and Origins. Luckily, the best way to learn all of this is to play the game and have fun!

To help you, we’ve put together a list of characters that are considered both strong and newbie friendly, from across all of LoL’s main disciplines: fighters, tanks, mages, supports, marksmen, and assassins. Each champion has a specific area of the map they are best suited to – the top, middle, or bottom lane, or the jungle – and so we’ve split them into these relevant categories.

The best League of Legends champions are:

What are League of Legends champions?

A champion or hero in any MOBA is the character on the map that the player controls. Each one is unique, and possesses at least – but is not limited to – four abilities which are triggered by the Q, W, E, and R keys. All champions possess one ability that is stronger than the others, known as an ‘ultimate’, which has a long cooldown and can only be used occasionally.

In League of Legends there are over 100 different champions to choose from. Much like an MMO or class-based shooter, these can be divided into categories which pertain to the unit’s purpose within the team. Some are marksmen, some are mages, others are damage-absorbing tanks, and some champions don’t comfortably fit into any of these descriptions.

In a standard League of Legends match there are five champions per team. Each champion’s abilities are steadily unlocked and then upgraded by earning experience and buying items using gold. Key to both of these enhancements is the killing of minions – AI-controlled monsters that attack enemy fortifications and champions. Kill scores of minions in addition to racking up kills against the enemy team and your champ will become extremely powerful in no time at all.

What are roles in League of Legends?

On League of Legends’ main map, Summoner’s Rift, there are five main roles, all of which play very differently. These are based on your physical location in the map, whether that’s in the top lane (‘top’), middle lane (referred to simply as ‘mid’), bottom lane (‘bot’) or jungle.

But that’s only four roles, surely? Well spotted. For various reasons, the bot lane is home to two players, rather than just one. One of these is called the AD Carry (short for Attack Damage Carry), and the idea behind this guy is that they’ll eventually carry the team to victory using their overwhelming attack damage. In order to do this, however, they first need to be protected through the early game in order to level up and buy the items needed to hit their power spikes.

Which is why the AD Carry is always joined in the bot lane by the support. This is the only character on the Rift whose job isn’t to murder people, but to set up kills for the AD Carry and keep them protected and well fed so they can get strong as soon as possible. This allows the AD Carry to last hit minions and farm gold, knowing that the support has their back should anything untoward happen.

The Summoner Spells most commonly used with these roles reflects this.

Flash is a spell that almost everyone uses. It’s an instant blink teleport that can quickly get you out of trouble, or get your enemy into trouble by closing the gap between you. It has a long cooldown so use it wisely.

The AD Carry will almost always take Heal, too. Their biggest job in the early game is to stay alive and not let the enemy AD Carry kill them, because that will feed them gold and hasten their ascent to power. Heal gives you a burst of healing (obviously), but also dramatically increases your movement speed for a short period, allowing you to hopefully manoeuvre away from danger.

Meanwhile, the support will take Exhaust, which does basically the opposite. It lowers an enemy’s movement speed to a crawl and drops their defensive stats, attack speed and damage output significantly. Use this to slow an escaping enemy or to turn a losing battle into a victory.

While the AD Carry and support buddy up in bot lane, on the other side of the Rift the top lane can feel like a lonely place, far from the action. It’s here that the top laner bruisers live. Tanky melee fighters who can give a beating as well as take one.

Because of its secluded location, top laners tend to take Teleport as their secondary Summoner Spell alongside Flash. This allows them to jump into team fights anywhere on the map at a moment’s notice, lending some front-line damage output and acting as a meat shield. Or just to go in search of a friend should they feel too isolated.

In the mid lane you’ll meet the mid laner mages. Spell slingers with high damage output that comes from accumulating large Ability Power stats, which increases the potency of their skills.

The most common Summoner Spell for mid laners, alongside Flash, is Ignite. This deals burn damage over time, which is handy if you get into a scrap with your lane opponent and they manage to sneak away with not much health. There are few things more satisfying than watching an ignited player scurry under their tower to safety, only to die to the inevitable ticking of Ignite’s damage.

For mid laners who are less interested in playing aggressively, Teleport is a decent alternative to Ignite. Some mages do scary amounts of damage and can jump in and out of combat nimbly, so suddenly having them Teleport into your lane can be unnerving at best and terminal at worst.

Finally, the jungler lives in the spaces between lanes, where neutral monsters roam. Their job is to hide away in the shadows, farming money from the Rift’s more aggressive fauna and jumping out to surprise enemies in each of the three lanes. This is called ganking. There are also some neutral objectives that the jungler is expected to keep under their control.

Each side of the jungle has a blue buff and a red buff – these are large monsters that grant you temporary boosts when you kill them. Blue buff grants cooldown reduction for your abilities, increased MP regeneration, and additional Ability Power. While the red buff slows enemies hit by your basic attacks, as well as deals additional damage over time to them. It also heals you if you stay out of combat. They’re pretty powerful buffs so make sure you use them.

As a jungler you’ll need to take Smite as a Summoner’s Spell, otherwise you’re going to have a really hard time. That and Flash should sort you out.

As with all of this, there are exceptions to everyrule, but consider this a solid groundwork on which to build more specialist knowledge as you play.

What role should I play?

Top tip: Sometimes you’ll find that you have difficulties when faced against a specific champion time and time again. You don’t understand how they work and they’re consistently getting the best of you. When that happens, try playing as that League of Legends champion. Doing so will give you insight into their abilities and play style, so you’ll know what to expect when you face them next time.

The most important thing is to have fun. If you’re not, then you should try changing something up. Sometimes playing a different champion can feel like you’re playing a totally new game.

Best League of Legends top champions

Garen – The Might of Demacia

Garen is naturally tanky, his W giving him bonus defensive stats. His passive, Perseverance, allows him to regenerate health much faster than other champions, which means you can stay in the lane longer. But he can also put out a lot of damage, especially if you’re able to chain your offensive abilities together.

Garen’s innate tankiness makes him a good champion to help you learn to navigate the often-isolated top lane. He struggles against ranged champions, but if you manage his skills well he can hold his own against most melee champions. There aren’t many characters in League of Legends who can withstand the repeated use of Decisive Strike and Judgement, and it doesn’t take long to whittle your opponents down to a point where you can finish them off with your ultimate.

If things aren’t going your way then make use of your defensive capabilities. Garen has the ability to gain defensive stats passively, and the fact that he automatically builds armour and magic resistance helps him out against anyone he might come up against. If you find yourself losing fights, you also have lots of potential escape routes. Using your E discourages people from getting too close, and using your Q lets you put some distance between you and your enemies. Your W boosts your defenses for six seconds, also helping you escape. Once you’re safe, Garen’s health regeneration is one of the highest in the game, so stay out of trouble for a while and you’ll quickly be back to full health.

When it comes to items, there are two that are perfect for Garen. Sunfire cape deals magic damage to enemies around you every second, and The Black Cleaver lowers your opponent’s armour by up to 24%. These both synergise perfectly with Garen’s E, and are crucial items for almost any build.

Nasus – The Curator of the Sands

Nasus can be played in a variety of ways. Like Garen, he’s naturally quite tanky, but can be built Ability Power (AP) or Attack Damage (AD) as well. His passive, Soul Eater, gives him lifesteal for free, also allowing him to stay in lane longer.

There are two popular ways to play Nasus. One of those is by focusing on his magic damage, using his E, Spirit Fire, to chip away at your enemies’ health before moving in for the kill. The second is by farming up his Q, a late-game tactic that sees you become more powerful over time.

Focusing on farming means that you learn a number of useful skills by playing Nasus. The first is last-hitting, which is the best way to earn gold and become able to buy items. You have to last hit in order to power up your Q, but as the ability gets more powerful, last-hitting becomes easier. However, you also have to make sure to keep an eye on your mana as using lots of spells, unsurprisingly, uses lots of mana. That means that you can’t just spam your abilities repeatedly, so you have to carefully manage your need to power-up with your ability to fight at all.

This makes items like Iceborn Gauntlet and Trinity Force very important for Nasus. Both provide Nasus with cooldown reduction (CDR), which lets him cast his spells more often, but also mana, letting him cast more of them, too. They also provide other bonus, such as empowering auto-attacks or granting extra armour.

Best League of Legends jungler champions

Shyvana – The Half-Dragon

Shyvana has some of the quickest jungle clear in the game, and her passive, Fury of the Dragonborn, allows her to do more damage to dragons while also getting bonus stats for each one she kills. Her ganks are best after she reaches level six, but she remains a threat even before then thanks to the speed boost on her W. She can also be built depending on what your team needs – tanky if you want, but also capable of dealing plenty of damage.

Shyvana is easy to play situationally. If your team is behind, or doesn’t have many tanks, it’s worth building a Stalker’s Blade with the Cinderhulk enchantment. This gives Shyvana the damage to kill jungle monsters, and a little bonus CC, but also the health and damage over time to survive a little longer. If you’re doing well, however, it might be worth building the Warrior or Bloodrazor enchantments, giving you more damage or attack speed.

Volibear – The Thunder’s Roar

Volibear’s not as fast as Shyvana, but he is good at surviving the jungle. His passive, Chosen of the Storm, lets him gain health every so often if he falls below a certain threshold, and can also be used in teamfights. His ganks are reasonably strong, and he can be built either offensively or defensively, depending on what your team requires.

It’s important to remember that, while Frenzy has a passive element, its active can only be used once Volibear has completed three basic attacks. That doesn’t take very long, but don’t expect to be able to use it straight away. It’s also on a long cooldown, so make sure you use its execute mechanic at the wrong time.

Due to his W and his ultimate, attack speed is an important part of Volibear’s kit. The faster you can attack, the quicker you can activate your W, and the more damage you’ll deal with your ultimate. This makes Wit’s End, which increases your attack speed while lowering your enemy’s magic resistance, an important buy. Also useful is Spirit Visage, which increases the effectiveness of Volibear’s passive.

Best League of Legends mid champions

Annie – The Dark Child

Annie embodies a lot of what it is to be a mid laner. Strong crowd control and high burst-magic damage are the payoffs for minimal mobility, but good timing and target selection can swing entire games in Annie’s favour.

Annie’s crowd control makes her very good at initiating team fights. Once you’ve used four spells, you’ll have charged up a stun that activates on the next damaging spell you cast. This means that you can use Disintegrate or Incinerate to stun enemies, and then immediately drop Tibbers on them, starting the fight with a huge amount of burst damage.

Annie’s long range and high CC might make her good at starting fights, but be careful – if she gets caught out she only has her Molten Shield to protect her, and no real means to escape.

To get the most out of Annie’s damage, you want to build as much Ability Power (AP) as possible. For this, you’ll want to pick up Rabadon’s Deathcap, which gives you lots of AP by itself, but then also increases your total AP by 30%. You can also build items like Luden’s Echo, for extra burst and splash damage, or Void Staff to counteract tanky foes.

Morgana – Fallen Angel

Morgana is a utility mage. While Annie is able to output huge amounts of damage, Morgana’s appeal is that she has a few extra tools at her disposal that make her great for the mid lane. It’s part of why she’s a viable support champion, but due to her high magic damage, for this list we’re classing her in the role she was initially released in.

Good aim and quick reflexes are key to Morgana. You’ll need to hit enemies with her Dark Binding in order to get the most out of her kit, quickly following up with Tormented Soil to maximise the damage you deal. You’ll also need to make sure you react quickly when your allies are in danger, rooting enemies with your Q, or shielding allies with Black Shield to keep them safe.

Like I mentioned above, items like Zhonya’s Hourglass and Hextech Protobelt can be used effectively with Morgana’s ult. Protobelt dashes you forward a short distance, getting you within range of your enemies while also dealing a little bonus damage. Once you’ve cast your ultimate, you’ll want to activate Zhonya’s, freezing you in place for 2.5 seconds. During this time you can’t move, but you also can’t take damage, so you’re safe even if you’re right in the middle of the enemy team.

That does mean that you have to trust your team. Morgana works best when she’s with friends who can capitalise on her long stuns, and also back her up when she engages. Make sure you communicate well before committing with your ultimate because you don’t want to be surrounded by enemies when the stuns wear off.

Best League of Legends AD carry champions

Caitlyn – The Sheriff of Piltover

Caitlyn is, for the most part, the champion with the longest range in the game. She can be surpassed by Tristana and Kindred, but that’s not until very late into the game, so most of the time she can deal damage even when she’s a long way away from potential threats. She has a reasonably simple kit, relying on her auto-attacks to do the most damage.

ADCs need to stay as far away from the fight as they can. Hopefully, your team-mates will protect you, but you’re arguably the most high-profile target on your team, and getting too close to the fight is a great way to die very quickly. As Caitlyn, use your W, E, and extremely long range to stay out of trouble while still outputting a lot of damage.

Caitlyn’s range is also useful for sieging. This is what happens before fights start, when teams are waiting under towers for somebody to get caught out. Caitlyn can use traps to act as impromptu defenses, but can also use her Q to deal damage to enemy champions and clear waves of minions.

AD Carry builds are arguably the least diverse in the entire game, with many items working across the board. For Caitlyn, as with many others, you want attack damage (AD) and attack speed, in order to deal the most damage per second (DPS). That means you want to build Infinity Edge, which comes with lots of AD, as well as the chance to deal a critical hit. These are powerful attacks that normally deal double damage, but Infinity Edge bumps that damage up to deal 2.5 times as much damage as normal. You’ll also want to build Runaan’s Hurricane, which spawn up to two extra damage-dealing bolts, to enhance Caitlyn’s DPS even further.

Ashe – The Frost Archer

If Morgana is a utility mid-laner, Ashe is a utility ADC. A combination of CC, vision, and AoE spells make her a rarity in the bottom lane, and her ultimate is one of the most powerful stuns in the game.

ADCs are often a similar bunch, and while there are a few – like Jhin or Lucian – who do a lot of spell-based damage, many simply want to auto-attack as much as possible. That means Ashe also needs to hang towards the back of the fight, but unlike Caitlyn, she can start them.

You can use your W to poke enemies and clear minions, but when you decide the time is right, you can fire your ultimate. This impressive ability shoots all the way across the map, but stops when it hits its first enemy target, stunning them and offering your team someone to engage on. While it’s good for starting fights, it’s also good at finishing them – don’t be afraid to fire it point blank at an enemy, allowing you to finish them off while they’re stunned.

Like Caitlyn, Ashe should also probably be building Infinity Edge and Runaan’s Hurricane, but now I want to focus on two different types of item. You’ll want Lifesteal, which heals you based on the amount of damage you do, and which you can get from The BloodThirster. ADCs are also important for dealing damage to tanks, so items that shred armour or do damage to enemies with more health than you are very important. With that in mind, Lord Dominik’s Regard is a very useful item on any ADC as, helpfully, it does both of those things.

Best League of Legends support champions

Leona – The Radiant Dawn

Leona is arguably bested only by Nautlius in the amount of CC built into her kit, which makes her excellent at starting fights, but also at looking after her ADC. Her shield also means she’s able to wade into a battle with minimal personal risk.

Leona comes from the tanky, CC heavy brand of support. That means she can get involved in a fight, but you’ll need to be careful not to go too far, too fast. Engaging without a team to back you up is a sure-fire way to get yourself killed very quickly.

You also need to remember that part of your job as a support is to look after your ADC, so it’s important to know that a big engage might benefit your team initially, but also puts you a long way from your carry. Always look to assess the threat to your team before jumping on the first badly positioned enemy.

A big part of any support’s job is helping supply vision to your team and denying it to the enemy. All champions should be buying and placing control and trinket wards, but anyone playing support should also at the very least have a Sightstone and a Hextech Sweeper. Leona’s kit demands that you make her tanky, so a Locket of the Iron Solari is good for buffing her stats while also granting her and nearby allies a shield when activated. You’ll also want a Face of the Mountain, an item that builds out of starting item Relic Shield, providing health, sustain, and money to you and your carry.

Janna – The Storm’s Fury

Janna has a little bit of everything built into her kit. Heals, shields, knockups, knockbacks, slows, buffs, and even speed boosts. In fact, the only thing she doesn’t have is a stun, but her sheer versatility makes her an excellent support, although she does have to take care not to get caught out.

Janna occupies the other school of supports. She’s much squishier than Leona, but the diversity offered in her kit lets her protect allies better than almost any other support. ‘Peeling’ for a carry means making an effort to look after them when enemies close in, and the wide-ranging amount of tools at Janna’s disposal make her excellent at this.

Janna can protect, but she can also help allies chase down enemies. She’s extremely fast, and passes that speed boost onto her team when they’re moving towards her. Her Q and W offer ways to stop an enemy in their tracks, and you can then buff an ally by granting them a shield to help whittle down enemies faster.

Sightstone and Locket are good items on Janna, but you might also want to look into Frost Queen’s Claim, which grants Janna an extra slow. Aether Wisp is another option as it gives extra damage to allies when Janna heals or shields them, adding a further buff to her E.

League Of Legends New Champion Rek’Sai
