10 Bible Verses On The Power Of Our Words / 2023

The saying “sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me” is dead wrong. Words do hurt.

As a child I was a victim of verbal abuse. Every ill word said to me by a loved one was like a stone thrown at my heart. It took me years and years as an adult to heal the wounds ill spoken words caused.

I reread the book of Proverbs just recently and verse upon verse about the power of our words kept jumping off the page.

When I was scrolling through pictures for backgrounds for these 10 bible verses on the power of words I am sharing with you below, I came across the picture I had taken of polished stones at a gift shop and knew immediately the background for these verses on words had to be stones.

Our words are stones. We are nothing but stone throwers with each word we speak.

If our words contain beauty people treasure them.

If our words contain pain people toss them aside, but not until after they have had to deal with the wound they caused.

Like the stones in these pictures are hand selected by buyers, we get to choose our words. Which ones will you choose?

Proverbs 11:9 “Evil words destroy one’s friends; wise discernment rescues the godly.”

If you love studying bible verses by topic you may like this book. I keep a copy of it by my bedside and read a section of it each night before bed.

1. Chalkboard

Did you know you can buy framed Chalkboards from Amazon? You can even buy the sandwich board style that would be so cute placed outside your front door with one of these verses.

2. Whiteboard

A magnetic whiteboard placed in the entranceway to your home is handy for more than notes-use it to put a scripture where you will see it every day as you enter and leave your home.

3. Felt Board

Felt boards are all the rage! Place one in your home in an area people pass daily. Or you could get a tabletop one and meditate on a verse as you eat.

4. Printables on a Clipboard

It doesn’t take long to open up your word processing program, type out a bible verse on love, and create a black and white printable with it. All you need to do is play around with the fonts and spacing until you like what you see.

Print your verse out and then place it on a clipboard with a hole in the top and hang it wherever you want in your home using command hooks. You could even make a wall full of clipboards with verses.

5. Removable Wall Decals

Amazon sells several different removable wall decals that contain scriptures.

6. Use Your Creative To Create Wall Hangings And More

If you have a Cricut, then the ideas for where you can place scripture are endless. You can put verses on t-shirts, walls, glassware, binders, cups and so much more with one of these machines.

Of course, you can place scripture around your home using other art mediums including hand-lettering on canvas, paper, or wood.

Creating New Styles In Microsoft Word / 2023

Microsoft Word Styles are the most basic building blocks in Word. One of the first things you’ll need to learn after you master the interface and basic formatting is using the Quick Styles listed on the Home tab. Often, though, the Quick Styles don’t contain a particular Style your document needs.

If the default Microsoft Word Styles don’t fully meet your needs (for example, you need one for block quotes), you can create a new one. There are a couple of different ways to do this. I’ll start with what I think is the easiest one first.

Creating a new Style from an example

You’ll get this dialog box:

Word will automatically name this Style1; you’ll want to rename it here if you did not already do it in the previous dialog box as I did.

Word has several Style types: Paragraph, Character, Linked (which combines Paragraph and Character), Table and List. Since this is really intended to be a collection of paragraph settings, Linked isn’t really the best choice, because if I change the font style or size elsewhere in the document and apply Block Quote as a Linked Style, it’s going to change the text back to Calibri 11. The Style type Paragraph is a better choice in this instance.

If I’m typing a Block Quote paragraph and I press the Enter key, what Style do I want the following paragraph to default to? That’s the question answered here. It’s a matter of personal convenience and obviously depends on what sort of document you’re working on.

Any changes you make in formatting (see 7) will show up in this Preview window …

… and you can review the settings themselves in this window.

These settings control three things: (a) whether you can access this Style in the Styles Gallery on the Home tab (if you want to keep this one handy, leave that box checked); (b) whether you want any Styles to automatically update themselves based on manual formatting you do in your document (for example, if you altered the indentation on one paragraph that had the Block Quote Style applied to it, checking this box means that the Style itself reflects those changes, and all the paragraphs with Block Quote applied will change, not just the one you edited). I recommend leaving this one unchecked—it tends to wreak havoc in documents; (c) whether you want this Style to be available only within this document or any documents you create in the future in this template.

Creating a new Style from scratch

If you’ve got a specific set of requirements and are fairly adept with character and paragraph formatting, though, you can simply create a new Style from scratch. For this example, I’m going to create one for quoted deposition text.

You’ll get the now-familiar dialog box:

You’ll notice that I designated this to be a Paragraph Style. Since this Style is intended to control how the text indents and spaces, I want it to be independent of font settings, etc., so I can use it with any font settings in any document.

I did three things here (circled in red):

I chose a half-inch hanging indent

I selected Single spacing

I inserted 12 points of space between the paragraphs and made a point of instructing Word to insert that space even between paragraphs of this same Style.

You can preview the results in the Preview pane (circled in blue above).
